Step into the world of film and television as you explore Cheshire through the lens of the screen. From sweeping period dramas to crime thrillers and even reality series, the county’s stately homes, gardens and attractions have provided the backdrop for countless iconic moments. This itinerary brings groups face to face with some of the region’s most recognisable filming locations – whether it’s spotting the keepers from The Secret Life of the Zoo, standing in the footsteps of Mr. Darcy at Lyme, or tracing the drama of Peaky Blinders at Arley Hall and Gardens.
Chester Zoo, CH2 1LE
Home to 128 acres, almost 29k animals and over 500 species, there are a multitude of backdrops that have been used for productions over the years.
Channel 4’s The Secret Life of the Zoo ran 5 series that offered a fly-on-the-wall look at the lives of animals and keepers at Chester Zoo and you can still spot some of the keepers around the zoo now!
Our Zoo was a BBC drama which shared the founding story of Chester Zoo by George Mottershead back in the 1930’s.

18th Century Mansion set in 50 acres of landscaped gardens, 1000 acres of parkland and a Medieval Old Hall
BBC drama ‘Sherwood’ has been filmed here at the forecourt, grand entrance hall and glasshouses were featured.
Many iconic episodes of Coronation Street have been filmed in Tatton Hall and Gardens including lakeside and wedding scenes in 1967, 1980’s and 2010.
The Tower, ITV crime drama that aired in 2021 filmed scenes in the grounds of Tatton Park and the deer park.

Harlan Coben’s Fool Me Once was filmed at locations on Arley Estate during 2023, and aired on Netflix in 2024. Arley Hall was also Tommy Shelby’s home in Peaky Blinders and featured in "Our Zoo", "Coronation Street", “Hollyoaks”, "Cold Feet", "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes", and Disney's "Evermoor".

Glorious house, with gardens, moorland and deer park
Known for the iconic scene where Mr. Darcy emerges from the lake in the BBC's "Pride and Prejudice", Lyme Park also featured in the film "The Awakening".
Group visits: 5% discount for groups of 15+ including admission, reserved coach or minibus parking and personal welcome. Catering can be booked in advance too.

With a zoo, glasshouse, gardens and even a cycle museum, there is plenty to keep groups busy here.
